PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

Dance Training:  A minimum of 5 ballet technique classes are required weekly at the BBC studios, two of which are the mandatory Company classes. In addition, the dancer must take one additional genre from the following: Lyrical, Contemporary Jazz, or Hip Hop. For specific details on class schedules, contact the BBC Office or the Artistic Director.

 

Performances and Rehearsals:  Dancers are required to perform in the scheduled performance series for each season (Fall - Winter - Spring, plus additional events at the discretion of the artistic staff). There are mandatory rehearsals for each performance. For specific details on rehearsal schedules, contact the BBC Office or the Artistic Director. 

 

Summer Study:  WCU Certificate Dancers are required to attend at least one session of a summer program, either with The Dance Center, Brandywine Ballet, or an approved outside school or company.

 

WCU Courses:  The undergraduate WCU student must take two of the following 3 credit WCU dance-related courses:

 

DAN 150 - Athleticism and Artistry in Dance

DAN 210 - The Dancer’s Body

DAN 315 - Dance Pedagogy

DAN 344 - History of Dance

MHL 121 - Music in Culture and History

MHL 210 - Music History I

THA 103 - Acting I

THA 104 - Stagecraft

THA 116 - Costume Construction

Completion of these courses is mandatory by the end of undergraduate studies. Copies of transcripts showing passing grades in these courses must be given to BBC before the Certificate is issued.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:

 

The Company’s series-based season typically includes the following:

FALL SERIES - Our seasons begin with rotating repertoire and full-length productions featuring our resident and guest choreographers, performed at Emile K. Asplundh Concert Hall.

WINTER SERIES - The Nutcracker.  Our spectacular production of The Nutcracker, performed at Emile K. Asplundh Concert Hall, has become one of Chester County’s favorite holiday events.

SPOTLIGHT PERFORMANCE & FUNDRAISING EVENT - A repertoire performance featuring Brandywine Ballet Theatre and Brandywine Contemporary.

SPRING SERIES - Our seasons conclude with a storybook inspired ballet to delight all audiences, also performed at Emile K. Asplundh Concert Hall.

FEES & SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

 

Total cost for the Certificate in Ballet Program includes the standard WCU tuition, as well as an additional fee of $2000 per year to the BBC for participation in the Ballet Program.

 

WCU offers both need and merit-based scholarships. Early application is encouraged.

 

BBC offers merit-based scholarships, as well as a Work Study option, specifically applicable to the Ballet Program fees.

 

BBC provides opportunities for Certificate dancers to attend on site workshops and Master’s Classes at no additional charge or at discounted rates.

TO APPLY TO THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM:

  1. Apply and be admitted to West Chester University

  2. Send a letter/email of interest directly to the BBC office, including your dance background pertaining to ballet and performance training.

  3. Call/email Brandywine Ballet to arrange for an audition.
